You can do anything for two weeks.

The 14 Day Reboot is Dr. Raul Serrano's plan for getting off the Standard American Diet. For 14 days you drop added sugar, damaged fats and processed food, and eat real food instead. Then you keep the parts that worked.

Why 14 days, and not 90?

Because people actually finish 14 days.

Dr. Serrano's first nutrition plan for a patient came in a 1½-inch binder. It was a year long, and it worked, if you had the discipline of a Navy SEAL. Nobody did. Patients quit, or never started.

So he cut it to 90 days. Then 30. Every time the plan got shorter, more people made it to the end. Fourteen days is where he landed: the shortest plan that still gets the job started. Then the FuN Plan is how you keep the old habits from creeping back.

Water boils at 212°F. Heating it to 220° doesn't make it more boiled.

That's the idea behind the Reboot: the minimum effective dose. Do what works, then stop.

Remove the bad. Rebuild with the good.

The book calls it the Remove/Rebuild process. It's four steps, and you do them together for the 14 days.

  1. Remove

    Sugar

Added sugar goes, and so does anything that turns into sugar fast: grains, flours, high-sugar fruit. For two weeks, not forever.

  2. Rebuild

    With fat

Out with canola oil, vegetable oil and margarine. In with healthy fats, so your body gets good at running on fat as well as sugar. The book calls that being "fuel flexible."

  3. Remove

    The chemicals

Preservatives, food dyes, artificial sweeteners and the rest of the ingredient list you can't pronounce.

  4. Rebuild

    With protein

Swap conventional and processed meat for naturally raised protein: grass-fed, pasture-raised, wild-caught.

Before any of that: find your anchor. The book says it's the most important step of the whole Reboot. Your anchor is the reason you need to change, not the reason you should. It's what gets you through day 4.

Three ways to eat. You're probably on the first one.

The Reboot is the bridge. It's what takes you from the Standard American Diet to the way you'll eat after.

SAD

The Standard American Diet

Conventional meat and dairy, processed food, lots of sugar, not many vegetables. If you think SAD, think processed.

The Reboot Plan

Days 1 to 14
  • No added sugar, grains or flours, and only low-sugar fruit and veggies
  • Plenty of healthy fats, no damaged ones
  • Clean, naturally raised protein
  • No vacation meals. It's two weeks. You've got this.

The FuN Plan

Day 15 and on

Functional Nutrition: all fruits, good whole grains, every vegetable and naturally raised protein. Plus vacation meals, which is the book's way of saying you can have your cake and eat it too.

Two ways to start

The book explains the why and gives you the food lists and daily guide. The kit puts the supplements from the plan in one box.

Do you need both? No. The kit's daily guide covers what to take and what to eat. The book goes deeper into why it works, and it's yours to keep for the next time you need a reset.

God needs no help to heal; He just needs no interference.

The motto in Dr. Serrano's home and office, from chapter one

Your body already knows how to heal a cut. You don't do anything. It just gets on with it.

The Reboot starts from the same idea. Take away what gets in the way (added sugar, damaged fats, chemicals) and give your body two weeks of real food to work with.

Meet Dr. Raul Serrano

He was the skinniest kid anyone knew. Then a doctor told him to carry candy bars.

Raul spent a lot of his early childhood in the hospital. Heading into middle school he was diagnosed with hypoglycemia, and the advice was to keep candy bars and juice on hand "just in case." A middle school boy with permission to eat king-size Reese's Cups had a lot of just-in-case moments. Within a few years he was the heaviest kid in his class, and he was told it was in his genes.

It wasn't. Figuring that out turned into a career. Today Dr. Serrano is a chiropractor who has worked with thousands of patients, and The 14 Day Reboot is the plan he wishes someone had handed him back then. He also co-founded Re, the company that makes the supplements in the Reboot Kit.

Questions

If yours isn't here, send us a message.

Is the Reboot a diet?

For 14 days it's a pretty strict one. After that it's the FuN Plan, which is how the book suggests eating for the long haul, vacation meals included. The point of the two weeks is to break the old habits, not to live on them.

What can I eat during the 14 days?

Vegetables, low-sugar fruit, healthy fats and naturally raised protein. The book has full approved food lists for both the Reboot and FuN Plans, and the kit's daily guide lays out each day's meals.

Do I need the book and the kit?

No. You can do the Reboot with just the book, or follow the kit's daily guide on its own. Plenty of people get both: the book for the why, the kit so they don't have to shop for five supplements.

Is the Reboot right for everyone?

Talk to your doctor or practitioner first, and especially if you take medications (blood thinners in particular) or manage a health condition. The kit isn't for use if you're pregnant or nursing.

How does shipping work?

The Reboot Kit ships free. Checkout and shipping are handled by Re, Dr. Serrano's supplement company, at life.re.

I have the book. Where are the free resources?
